While driving to the lake we spotted this strange object flying above the trees. We have actually seen this motorized kite several times in the downriver and below area and even though I wouldn't really want to fly one, it sure is neat to see them glide by.

Even though none of the boys caught anything, I think they at least enjoyed their first experience and can't wait to try their hands at it again. 

 

 

Granny, 113 Years Old!!!

Most everyone wants to live as long as possible. The Doctors have found many ways, such as chemo, heart transplants etc. to keep people alive a little longer. One secret to long life is found in the ten commandments in the Bible. The 5th commandment says: "Honor your father and mother that you may live long on the earth." The Bible also tells us how to treat those that have lived long on the earth. Leviticus 19:32 "You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord." Job 12:12, "Wisdom is with the aged men, and with length of days, understanding. Proverbs 16:31, "The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness."

Three years ago, my family had the pleasure meeting one of those gray haired elderly people, at a senior home in Florida where my Grandparents held a Bible sing along. This certain lady was affectionately called Granny.
Granny was, at that time 110!! She was a very sweet lady who loved the Lord and came whenever she was able, to the services my grandparents held there. Despite her age, she still used a walker then and insisted on getting out of her chair herself, saying that "she was a big girl.."

Through the years we have thought and prayed for her, and every time her Birthday came around we would send an e-mail to Grandpa and Grandma, asking them to say Happy Birthday to her for us. Just last year, Granny had been moved to the Oaks, a nursing home, being unable to care for herself. This year just after her 113th birthday in April, our grandparents sent us an article that had been in their newspaper about her. It was very interesting, and informed us that at one time no one had known how old she really was, until her granddaughter Marie Daniels found a fishing license of hers that recorded her age.

Granny (Roxene Riggs) is a Christian and has a love of reading, especially the Bible and other Christian literature and magazines. Mrs. Daniels said that "she (Granny) has always been a very caring person… very humble, and always appreciative of anything anyone does for her." Some of Granny's favorite sayings are, "keep on keeping on", "I want to be ready when the Lord calls", and "Do what you can when you can."

As you can see Granny is of a persevering character, and my whole family has been blessed by her.

The LORD's Day Blessings

Every day is a day "that the Lord has made," but this past Sunday seemed to be a special gift from God. This Sunday was different as our little fellowship of 6 families met in the Eddy's basement for our service. (We greatly appreciate all the work that went into emptying, cleaning and fixing it up.) The message was on the Spiritual Blessings we have from God in Christ found in Ephesians 1. What marvelous but deep truths we contemplated as we learned of the spiritual blessings which are ours: election before the foundation of the world that we might be holy, adoption according to His good pleasure, redemption through Christ's blood and forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace! Each of these gave us a lot to praise God for as we realized that they were all given to us for His glory and not our own. We ended the service with lively songs of praise to our great and glorious Lord!

Happy 16th Birthday Joshua!! The writing of the cake says, "As the deer pants for water, so my soul longs for God!  

Happy Birthday Joshua!!

Joshua started out as the heaviest and longest of the Sauve babies, weighing in at 9 lb. 15 oz., but now at 16 years of age he is a skinny 6 feet, 1 in. tall active young man. Joshua does well with all sports and even conquered "Double Dutch" (using 2 long jump ropes) last weekend. Fishing and hunting are his new interest and he hopes to do more of each in the future, especially since he got a nice new fishing rod for his birthday.

Along with sports, Joshua likes to keep busy building things. When younger, it was Legos and Fischer Technique, and now it is model cars and airplanes and some carpentry. A few years ago he helped build our sandbox/fort and made wood stilts to sell.

Joshua has always been a lover of nature and animals, especially birds which frequently interrupt his studies when they visit our back yard. Music is also another thing he greatly enjoys. You can hear him whistling, singing or playing the piano just about any time of the day. If he's quiet, he is probably reading a G. A. Henty book or other historical books.

Joshua has not only grown in height but also in Christian character, such as patience, diligence, and kindness. His love for God and His word is shown in how he enjoys memorizing scripture and looking up the Greek words and their meanings. We are thankful to God for the 16 years he has given him, and pray that God will direct his future as he trusts in Him.

These are all the things that Joshua got for his birthday. Note the 3-D plane kite, pajama pants that Faith made him, and the fishing pole in his left hand. Other items were a nice wrist watch, piano sheet music by Calvin Jones and glow-in-the-dark stars. 

Sunday Evening with the Shepherds

In His Word, God commands us through the apostle Peter to "Be hospitable to one another without grumbling." On Sunday evening our friends the Shepherds did just that. They had been wanting to have us over to their house for the past few months and they finally got their wish this past Lord's day. We had a wonderful time of fellowship with these friends in Christ, and if a merry heart and laughter is good medicine like the Bible says it is then we had more than our fair share of fantastic medicine. Laughter filled the air at almost all times and in all the places we went. In the house, on our nature walk around the property, there was seldom a time when laughter couldn't be heard somewhere. Thanks for the great time Shepherds, it was very good for our health!

For Resurrection Sunday, the Shepherd girls prepared a hand printed Greek text of I Corinthians 15:20 for each family in our fellowship. For those of you who can't read Greek it says: " But now is Christ risen from the dead." Praise God, we serve a risen Savior!
