Traditional Snowflakes: The Beginning

We Sauve's enjoy snow, so much so that snowflakes have become a beginning point and major part of our end of the year traditions.    On or around the first day of winter we set aside an evening to turn our living room (and other sundry parts of the house) into a winter wonderland.  This tradition has become the launching pad for our "Special Days".  And just as last year, Faith took the snowy evening for her activity.

Paper was cut, snowflakes emerged, they were then ironed flat, and strung ready to ascend to the ceiling.
Tasty little snackables were partaken of between snowflakes, while the audio drama of the classic story "Christmas Carol" set the tone.

As always the men of the family were in charge of sticking the paper crystals up where they belonged, and the now nearly 6'7" Josiah, managed easily standing firmly on the ground.
As Ebenezer Scrooge went on his ghostly adventures, snowflakes danced down the hallway, and swirled about the living room.

So now Winter has officially begun, inside and out!  Do enjoy!!

The New Room

After Grandpa passed away, we began to think about revamping the master bedroom for Mom and Dad.  This included, new paint, new flooring, and general rearranging.
{Before}
{After}
: not quite completed yet, but pretty close! :
The first step was a new coat of paint.  Most of our house is the same tan color, so we decided it was time to liven things up a little bit.

If you have never tried, you can have NO idea how terribly difficult it is to pick out the proper shade of green.
Even if you think it looks just right on that tiny piece of paper in Home Depot, beware!  Once it is on your wall, it will take on an entire shade of its own.  But despite the "frosted pine" not being exactly what we were looking for, it was still pretty, and created a calm relaxing atmosphere.
Once the paint was applyed and dried, we began to work on the floor.  Tearing up the old dirty carpet, then after much debate decided to install Pergo flooring.
We were delighted to have the help of friends who had experience in the placing of the flooring, and in one day it was all finished!
All the furniture moved into place, the curtains hung, and the elegant touch of an orchid on the dresser, the room was finished, excepting a few wall hangings which are to come.

We did hang one picture up.  A painting of my Grandpa and Grandma Sauve's house, a house whose roof just "happened" to match the "wrong" color of paint exactly!

The Puzzled Village

Once upon a time in the land of Put-Together, settled in the middle of the valley of Pieces, sat a group of houses known as the Puzzled Village.
Built in the Bavarian style, the large buildings are formed with narrow minded streets and crookedly thought chimneys.

The inhabitants of Puzzled Village are a quiet folk, too confused about their own affairs to worry much about the world around them.

No smoke ever rises out of their befuddled chimneys, but pretty flower pots grace the windows that stare uncomprehendingly on the surrounding world.

A stones throw away stands the Mansion of Comprehension where the Giants of thought reside, but no reverberation of their footsteps ever disturbs the self pleased Puzzledinians, and not the whisper of meditation ever stirs the air of their silent abodes.

As the sun sets the disoriented people of Puzzledom vacate the bewildered streets and enter their baffled homes.

The setting orb streams through the deserted streets of the Puzzled Village, endeavoring to bring some light upon its subjects, but alas they have all flown into their darkened abodes, never to be disturbed by the power of reckoning.

And so ends my story, which never began, of the Puzzled Village, and it's bewildered occupants.

Friday Evening Outing

This last Friday evening if you happened to chance by our house, you would have found it deserted.  Three of  it's occupants were off to the movies ("The Hobbit" at the Henry Ford Imax Theater!! It was a belated birthday present for Charity),  so the remaining 3 (yes our family is officially shrunk to 6) decided to head off on an adventure of their own!

The first stop was Colette's Antique shop.  Mom, Faith and I were soon lost in wonder at the magnitude of the place!  It was ENORMOUS!!
Each booth had it's own flavor (and prices ;P )
One of our finds (a look-at-find only) was a ledger from the 1920's!  Filled with page after page of handwritten records.  The prices of produce back then.....!

I was one of the happiest creatures on earth, when Faith found two darling Beatrix Potter dishes!!  They came home with us where they belong!

After drooling down one aisle (it took us over a half and hour to simply peruse one single side of the store!!) we realized it was time to go, so we collected our items, purchased them and left.

*********************************************************

Our second destination was a friends church, where there was going to be an orchestral band playing.
The band (which was made up of everything but strings) was phenomenal and played a delightful variety of classical and seasonal pieces and melodies.

The percussion section had to be our favorites, and from our seats we could view it quite well.  One particular man playing the snare drum, as well as countless other percussion instruments, was absolutely a blast to watch!! He was so in to his music!!

There was quite a large clarinet section as well as oboe, flutes etc.

So while half of us watched a movie, and the other half traipsed about town, all had a fabulous time!
