There is nothing like indoor flowers to cheer you up in the winter. Of course the best is when you force them yourself, (like the Hyacinth) but if you don't have time to do that, buying flowers at the store, though not as satisfying, is just as beautiful.
Primroses are my favorite to buy from the store, since once they are done blooming you can plant them in the ground to flower the next spring.
Last year we bought a pale pink and a yellow primrose, so this time when the urge came to buy another "fragrant messenger of spring," we selected a pretty purple/pink primrose with cheery bright yellow centers.
Another smiling flower face that sits in the window is a lovely rose colored geranium that we had brought in after summer, and which was kind enough to bloom again this February.
Now, one of my weak points has to be when it comes to daffodils. I love all of God's beautiful flora, but the daffydowndillys are one of my favorites. So when we saw a few potted miniature daffodils at the store, we immediately brought one home:)
"A house with daffodils in it is a house lit up,
whether or no the sun be shining outside."
~A.A. Milne
"Lady Washington" bloomed again showing her beautiful color and vitality. She is a constant joy, and so elegant!!
I am so very grateful for the beauty which God has created, and especially grateful for these glimpses of sunshine before the spring comes, and ...
".. oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.."
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.."
~William Wordsworth
