The Saushall Gathering!

Last Saturday a Sau-shall (pro.: social) was held at our home as the Sauves and Marshalls gathered for a time of fun and fellowship! Throughout the afternoon and evening we played volleyball, tossed water balloons, ate dinner, sang around the piano, shared many moments of joyful laughter and above all had a great time!! Following are a few of the memories that we were able to capture of the newly named event: The Saushall!!!

While the rest of us played, (or tried to play) volleyball, Allison sat on the sidelines and took pictures of our exciting, and then not so exciting game. Posted by Picasa

One of the most hilarious, exhilarating, and tense games: Water Balloon Bedsheet Toss!!!! I don't think anyone went home totally dry! Posted by Picasa

Instant makovers! The afore said bursts of joyful laughter were brought on by none other than the Marshall girls as they presented to us their masks of transformation!  Posted by Picasa

Of course we had to try the masks on too! Posted by Picasa

Saturday Afternoon Senior Home Ministry

For the past few months we have had the wonderful opportunity to be part of a Saturday afternoon Senior Home ministry with some friends of ours. It has been such a blessing for us as we go and minister to these older people, many dear saints, and sing with them and pray for them. (This is a picture of Charity accompanying us with her flute while Karen plays the piano.)

Here are all the dear people we minister too. This past week there was only 23, which is about average. Other times we have had thirty or more come to worship the Lord through song with us. Praise GOD! Posted by Picasa

This dear couple (sitting at right) has been married for 67 years(!) and are still very much in love. :-)  Posted by Picasa

Why did the Turtle Cross the Road?

Yesterday we had a most exciting time when our neighbor spotted a turtle walking across the street in front of her house! We of course all ran out there to see what was going on and couldn't figure out where this size of turtle (about 6 to 8 inches) had come from. After some inspection and discussion, and as we headed back to our house to think of what to do, Faith and I suddenly remembered that one of the neighbors down the street did in fact have a pet turtle! So off we all went (that is 6 of us kids) to knock on the front door and present the little creature to its very startled owner. I don't think we will ever know how she got out of her crate, off a deck, across the yard and into the street, but who says that you don't need a little excitement in life sometimes?!!! Saturday, July 16, at the Worden's

Can you see where we are going? I barely could!!! We went through several storms like this on the way to Eaton Rapids, where it was almost inpossible to see where you were going and thunder clashes vibrated the whole vehicle!! Thankfully we were able to get through them all safely and it turned out to be a lovely day as we visited with the Worden family. Posted by Picasa

The Birthday Girls With Their Cake!

Friday was Mom and Aunt Carmen's birthday! We celebrated the occasion at a local park in Port Huron and even though it started out raining, it soon stopped and turned out to be a delightful evening! Along with Grandpa and Grandma Learned, Mom's Uncle Warren and Aunt Myrt came, and near the end we were all pleasantly surprised when Mom's cousin Gail and her daughter Kelly showed up! God has truely blessed us with such a wonderful family and I am so thankful for my dear Mother and Aunt!
Happy Birthday!! =)

Visiting with Grandma Perry

Last Wednesday evening, Grace and I had a wonderful time visiting with a dear 99 year old Grandma of some homeschooling friends of ours. We were suppose to be "Granny-sitting" but it really just turned out to be a lovely time of talking and listening and learning from this dear old lady. A few months back when I was trying to learn how to Tat, she was the only person I could find that knew how, and helped me learn how to drop the left hand so the knot would flip, the one step that I just couldn't figure out. Here is a cross bookmark that I made so you can see what tatting looks like . . . . . . . .

Grandma Perry was born in 1906, and grew up on a large farm. Her family worked 300 acres of land, and raised their own chickens for meat and eggs, and made their own butter from the milk cows that they owned. She recalls that when they had hired hands come to work, her mother would bake 9 loaves of bread, every other day. Her very favorite thing was the heel from a just- baked loaf of bread, slathered with freshly churned butter! She went to school in a one room school house, and there she learned how to Tat. During the noon hour, her teacher would be tatting up at her desk, and Grandma would hurry through her lunch, so that she could watch. Soon she was learning how to make the pretty rings and picots, and has been tatting gorgeous edgings, doilies, necklaces, and other decorative things ever since. She also taught herself to Crochet, and has innumerable doilies scattered around her room, as well as many afghans draping her chairs. But her prize possession is a full sized Quilt that she pieced and quilted by hand. She told us that in the 30's, when her children were small, she would put them to bed and then work for hours on this quilt, carefully stitching together hundreds of tiny pieces. She also made a quilt for each of her grandchildren when they got married. She said that her hands were never idle, and her collection of beautiful handiwork is evidence of that for sure.

We ended the night with a few rousing games of Dominoes, then headed home, thankful for this dear old lady and others like her, who do so much to inspire this younger generation to better, and more useful things. God bless you Grandma Perry!

Love,

Faith <><

Saturday morning July 9th, found Mom, Charity, Christianna and I (Grace) traveling out to Grass Lake (East of Jackson) to attend the bridal shower of our cousin Ben's fiancee, Natalie. We had an enjoyable time getting to know her and her family and look forward to the wedding on August 13! Posted by Picasa

Sermon on the Mount with Lew Sterrit July 5, 2005

On Tuesday, July 5th we went to see the performance and teaching of the Sermon on the Mount Ministries (based in Pennsylvania) at Joshua House in North Branch. Throughout the evening, as Mr. Sterrit worked with a young filly, he continually tied in lessons with biblical principals that can be apply to our own human lives. Even though this has only been our second time seeing and hearing Lew Sterrit, it has been a wonderful blessing and experience for our family and I'm sure it will not be our last! Posted by Picasa

The Moon - A Practical Application

A full moon shines brightly in the deep night sky. Its peculiar silver light illumines houses and fields, and is scattered by the branches of trees, creating eerie, glimmering shadows on the ground.

What a very interesting part of GOD’s creation our moon is! A sphere of rock, traveling on an unwavering, continuous path around the earth. It is the "lesser light to rule the night" as stated in Gen. 1:16, but where does it get its light from? As I said before, it is a mass of solid rock, not of gas that burns, like the sun, stars, and some of the planets are. It must get its illumination from something else; and it does. The moon reflects the light of the sun, proclaiming something bigger and better, something greater then itself.

To the same extent, we, before the quickening of the Holy Spirit showed us our need of Christ’s saving grace, were, in and of ourselves, nothing! But now, like the moon, we declare Someone much greater then ourselves, by shining Christ’s light to others. We reflect GOD’s love through the way we live, and the things we say, shining brightly in the darkness of the sin around us.

Now – what happens to the moon when the earth comes between it and the sun. Its light decreases doesn’t it. The light of the sun can no longer reach part or all of it. A quarter or crescent moon is not half as spectacular as a full moon.

The same thing happens to our "light" when we allow the world, and its influences, to come between us and Jesus Christ. Our witness begins to diminish and fade.

We cannot have "the best of both worlds." The Bible says in James 4:4, "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with GOD? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world, makes himself an enemy of GOD." There is a line, and a distinct one at that, between the things of GOD, and the world. Let us strive to stay as far away from that line and the world as we can. Not have one foot on either side and in the process, so blur our "light" that we can no longer effectively proclaim Christ. Let us be full moons, brilliantly reflecting the light of our LORD.

Blessings,
Faith <><

Monday was Faith's 21st birthday! Here she is wearing a dress Christianna made for her. We had our usually gathering at our house with Mom's side of the family and it turned out to be a very nice day! The LORD has truely blessed me with such a wonderful sister and I'm sure the rest of the family would agree that our home would just not be complete without Faith and all her unique gifts! =) With love, Grace  Posted by Picasa
