Happy Birthday Josiah!

Our little brother Josiah has been exciting since the moment he was born. Born at 12:30am, and at home, his birth really "woke us up." Since then he has grown to be a fun-loving 11 year old, and has through the years kept our family laughing. As the youngest of the family, Josiah often gets picked on by older siblings, yet he bears this in good part and often returns the favor. Josiah has recently, thanks indirectly to Thomas DeLadurantey, added talking in duck to his repertoire of humorous antics. There is seldom a time when his high pitched Donald Duck voice isn't heard in the house, either shouting "oh boy!" or shrieking in mock agony when John wrestles him to the floor.

Josiah greatly enjoys music and enjoys trying to play the piano,
organ, and now his new pan flute that he just got for his birthday.
Pan flute music has been his favorite for some time,
and he is now finding out how difficult it is to get a clear note
as you blow over the little pipes. Although he didn't sing in
Handel's Messiah last December, he learned many of the parts
and sings selections of it around the house.

Being named after a faithful king of Judah in the Old Testament,
Josiah began to obey the command to kings in Deuteronmy
17:18 & 19: "And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his
kingdom, he shall write a copy of this Law in a book from before
the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall
read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear Jehovah
his God, to keep all the words of this Law, and these statutes,
to do them." Josiah, on his own, started to copy the Bible several
years ago. Starting in Genesis, he has persevered and is up to
chapter 8 which equals 184 neatly printed verses in all.

We all are very thankful for Josiah and pray that he will grow
in the Lord as he grows in height (which he is sure to do,
being in the Sauve family) and to have the courage to stand
and make a difference in this world for His glory!

The Battle for Life - Petition Rally in Lapeer

The Sauvé family had the great priviledge of participating in a special event on this day, January 22, 2006, the 33rd anniversary of the disasterous Roe vs. Wade decision. Along with several families from our fellowship and a number of other concerned citizens, we took part in a rally to defend the lives of the unborn in front of the Old Courthouse in downtown Lapeer, Mi. The Michigan Citizens for Life, a new pro-life group in Michigan, launched their petition drive to change the wording of the Michigan Constitution to state that "life begins at conception." In one sense, it is sad that this petition drive is even necessary. To think that our state or any state would need to have it specifically stated that a pre-born human being is precious and needs to be protected and given the opportunity to enjoy "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is a sad fact today!

However, we were glad to do our part to help in the launch of this petition drive. John gave a stirring recitation of former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore's poem entitled "America the Beautiful." In it, the Judge decries the current state of affairs in our land where babies are treated like trash, judges let criminals go free, and our government and society have turned their collective backs on the God who gave us liberty! We also were privileged to hear our friend Brian Ervin give an excellent presentation of the legal and historical facts regarding the Roe vs. Wade issue. Dad (Paul) was given the opportunity to speak and shared the Biblical perspective on the preciousness of life and our responsibility to defend it. Lastly, our good friend Howard Shepherd did a great job of leading the rally and charging all to be bold and sign the petitions and get them out for all to sign that we might end the murder of the unborn in Michigan. Thank you Howard and our friends the DeLadurantey's for all the work they did to make the rally a great "first strike" in the battle for life in Michigan!

Happy Birthday, John!

Yesterday marked another milestone birthday in the Sauvé family. John Baptiste Sauvé turned 18 on January 18th 2006.
Having a 6'3'' young man who doubles as body guard for a brother sure is nice. But John's got brain to go with that brawn! He gives the credit to Henty's extensive writings for his love and knowledge of History. He is always willing (and able, I might add) to answer the questions of his historically challenged sister, and thrives on energetic "discussions" about the War between the States. (as most of you know:-) His mathematic skills are also quite impressive. Besides the fact that he actually seems to enjoy difficult arithmetic, he chose to take (and pass) the Mathematics exam for his first try at the CLEP tests. Today, he took and passed his second test, this time on American Goverment. Way to go John!:)
But as the Scripture says, "What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?" It is the Spiritual life that really makes a man a man, and John's love for the Lord and His Word is the real defining point in his life. He has an answer for the hope that is within him. In the last year, he has really grown in his knowledge of Biblical doctrines and in his ability to explain and defend them. We are proud of you John, and pray that you will continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord, and be used mightily by God to help revive our nation in coming years!

Just this past year he was able to purchase this instrument for an unbelievable price and after a little fix up started taking lessons from Grace. Though the going can be slow and the fingers might be sore, hopefully in the end the practice will pay off and another musician will be added to our ranks!

The Unchangeable Changer

A Good Start to The New Year!!!

Monday was the second day of the year, and also a day of enjoyable fellowship with our friends, the Hyslop and Eddy families. The day was spent in a time of praising the Lord, praying for guidance in the new year, playing fun games and of course, eating food! Here is a glimpse of the different things we did....Enjoy!

'Bible Catch Phrase' The game where you have to get your teammates to guess the word or phrase, without you saying any part of it. Of course there is a time limit too, which makes the game even more fun!!! ...................example......................"Christ is the Beginning and the End [in Greek] ?" 

"The followers of Jesus?"....... 

"The guy who lived the longest?"..........  

Speeding Spellers!!!! It's a team work, and speed game, with the goal of spelling the selected word correctly before the other team finishes. What a blast! 

Enjoying a snack : Hot chocolate, cookies and carmel popcorn! Yum!!! 

Later in the evening the musical instruments were brought out and Faith and Theresa enjoyed taking turns playing the violin, while Abbie Hyslop practiced some of the hymns she knew by heart on the piano and Charity brought out her flute for accompaniment. Oh yes, and of course Grace "played" around with the camera and captured these pictures (except for the ones that include herself).

Year-end Educational Grande Finale!

Years ago we decided that since we homeschool we have the liberty to start and end our school year when we want. Since our calendar year ends in December, why not our school year. It works well for record keeping and for ordering new books; we now can write year 2005 instead of 2004-2005 and no back-orders. This week we decided to end up our year in a little different way; we would use fun games to review a different subject each day. Adding to the fun, the whole family joins in, even the three that have "graduated."

We will be posting each day to share the fun we had on that day's subject.

Friday: History/Geography

Today we played Global Pursuit, a game where you have to really know your facts about geography and history! Lets just say that we didn't really know them all! Anyways we had fun, and even though we weren't able to finish the whole game I think we learned a little more about our world than we knew before.

Winter Workout

During these colder winter months, we have resorted to indoor activities to keep us fit, and to get our blood moving. Jump roping, mini trampoline, and stair- climbing, as well as the use of a treadmill, and stationary bike, ( left to us by our Grandfather) occupies a ten minute space of time between studies (or academic games) three mornings a week. We usually have one person at each "station" rotating every 2 min with Mom at command with a stopwatch.
